Confederate Weapons

There were an estimated 100,000 different weapons dumped into the Congaree River near Columbia. This armament was put there when it was captured by Union General Wm. Sherman, when he passed through Columbia in 1865 on his “march to the sea.” The purpose was to keep Confederate guerrillas from using it.
