Mystery of Lone Mountain
In early times Stone Mountain was known as Lone Mountain and was so called by the Cherokee and Cree Nations. According to the Indians of the Cherokee Indian Reservation in North Carolina, there is a fabulous Spanish treasure amounting to many millions in gold bullion concealed or buried in the vicinity of Lone Mountain. According to the story, the Spanish, loaded with many wagon loads of Aztec gold from Mexico were camping near Lone Mountain one night when they were suddenly attacked by a large group of Indians who massacred them to the last man. The supplies and provisions were taken by the Indians but the gold was concealed by them somewhere near Lone Mountain.
