This is probably the largest pirate hoard ever hidden in the United States and at today’s prices this treasure is estimated to be worth several million dollars. In 1716-1717 at a spot unknown today near the mouth of the Machias River, Bellamy and Williams had their crews build a fort and underground chambers to hide the vast amount of loot they had accumulated in their high seas robberies. Bellamy, Williams and several of their crew were drowned when their ship wrecked in the shoals of Cape Cod. The rest of the pirates were captured and hanged at Estham, Mass. Somewhere near the mouth of the Machias River is a subterranean vault that holds the most fantastic pirate hoard known today.
